The Potters are headed to the East Coast

Trek came home from school on Friday with exciting news! We already have our next base assignment. We NEVER hear where we're moving until about 3 weeks before we have to be there & this time around we found out almost 7 months beforehand.

So where are the Potter's headed? Somewhere we've never been before . . . the East Coast
Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.

We report in VA on October 5th, 2012 so we have a lot of time to prepare, find a house, get the kids in school, etc. I can actually do some homework before leaving to make sure my kids are in good schools & we live in a safe area. I'm really excited.

There are a few cons - I'm really sad to be so far away from family & this is a 4 year tour so it will be hard, but hopefully we'll be able to go out & visit often. And this base & all housing areas are surrounding on 3 sides by ocean. You all know how I feel about water. . . especially when I'm surrounded by it. I might need some anxiety meds while I live here, but hopefully it's not SO SMALL that I can see the water on all sides of me (at least that's what I'm hoping).

But it has even more PROS - We are literally living ON THE BEACH again. We've loved it here in Monterey & can't wait to be near the Atlantic Ocean. I love the beach even though I'm scared to death of water. There is SO MUCH HISTORY here. There are tons of historical sites in this area & Washington DC is less than a 3 hour drive. I'm sure I'll be taking my kids on SEVERAL weekend trips to the Smithsonian. I want to have seen ALL OF THEM by the time we leave VA. Oh & did I mention we're a 6 hour drive from NEW YORK CITY? AAAAAH!!!!!

We're excited. So, our home is open to anyone & everyone who wants to come visit us. The nearest airport is . . . FIVE MINUTES from the base (Newport News International Airport). Wahoo! So fly in & you'll have a place to stay.

SO EXCITED.

  1. Yay! Congratulations! (I can't remember if I commented on facebook or not, but I was thinking it! haha) I got my degree in History, so everytime I hear of someone going to the east coast I get super excited for them! (We have lots of Civil War Era history here in GA so I'm happy about that too.) I love your blog! Thanks for updating!
