Cadence's 10th Birthday Party - Movie Night

Cadence had a GREAT party for her 10th birthday.  She chose the theme:
MOVIE NIGHT

With my & my love of Hollywood, this one was a DREAM to do.

The goody bags:
Star Bags with little Oscar statuettes, a directors keychain,
& lots of black, gold, & red candy.

I asked Cadence what she wanted me to do for a cake this year & she simply wanted my Reese's Peanut Butter Fudge cake.  I was surprised she didn't want anything shaped like a movie or fancy, just my peanut butter cake. . . round & decorated very minimally.  I was TOTALLY on board with that.  I'll take EASY any day.

And just because EVERYBODY has been asking for the recipe. . . here it is:
#1: Make 2 boxes of your favorite chocolate cake mix.  I used Duncan Hines Fudge cake mix.  Each box makes two 8 inch round cakes so if you do 2 boxes, you'll have 4 cakes.  Let them cool & slice the puffy top off of each of them so they are flat, even cakes.
#2: USE JIF PEANUT BUTTER.  Nothing else compares for this recipe.  Stack all 4 cakes on top of each other with a generous layer of JIF peanut butter between each layer.
#3: Make AWESOME peanut butter frosting:
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups powdered sugar
10 Tablespoons of softened butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream

Beat the first 5 ingredients until creamy.  Add the whipping cream & beat on high until fluffy & yummy.
#4: Frost your cake with the peanut butter frosting any way you desire.
#5: Cut up Reese's peanut butter cups & put all over the top of your cake.  Drizzle with Hershey's chocolate syrup!

Voila!  Peanut Butter deliciousness!

Hollywood Movie Table Settings

I decorated the living room to be like a little movie theater for the girls.  Cadence wanted to watch "The Princess Diaries 2" so I wanted to make it all cute inside.

We even had a concession stand.

The concession stand was my favorite part of the party.  I had a BLAST putting it together.  In the invitations we handed out to the girls, we included 3 tickets they had to bring to the party.  One was good for candy, one was good for soda, & one was good for popcorn.  It got the guests excited for the party & it was just plain fun for me.

Taya was our Candy lady.  She said:
"Welcome to Candy Land.  What kind of candy would you
like?  Ticket please. . . "

Lorien was the Pop Shop.  "Welcome to the Pop Shop.
What can I get you?"

And Trekkie was the best daddy in the world running the
popcorn stand.  "Welcome to Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree.
What topping would you like on your popcorn?  Butter or
Nacho Cheese Flavor?"

And you can't have a Hollywood party without a red carpet right?  We had a red carpet leading from the front door to the table.  The girls LOVED that.

Movie Star FUN.

The Birthday Girl

When the girls arrived we ate pizza, pop, & fruit until we thought we'd burst.  We found a great little pizza shop just around the corner from us & their food was FABULOUS.  We'll definitely be going back soon.

Craiger is my pizza addict.  That kid could eat
pizza for every meal & be happy.

Silly girls having fun.

Time for CAKE.

I have to admit.  This cake was GOOD.

After pigging out on pizza, fruit, cake, & ice cream, it was time to go to the "theater" to watch our movie.

During the movie, the girls could get up & visit the concession stand as needed.  As if all the other junk food wasn't enough. . . we stuffed them with boxes of candy, more pop, & TONS of popcorn.

After "Princess Diaries 2" was over, it was time to open presents.  Cadence got all sorts of fun things from her friends.  It's funny seeing how she's growing up.  No more toys. . . just things a tween would love like money, jewelry, hair accessories, & chocolate.  My baby girl is growing up.

We had a blast.  It was such a simple party compared to many others I've done, but it was perfect.  Cadence loved it & that's what matters most.  I had a blast.

Happy Birthday My Darling Angel Girl.

Activity Days - Journals

After celebrating Cadence's birthday, we rushed off to the church for Activity Days.
Did I mention how much
I LOVE MY CALLING?

This got to be Lorien's first day of activity days as well since she's turning 8 this month.  It's SO FUN to have TWO of my girls in there with me.

We read a conference talk about journals (Spencer W. Kimball) & then we made homemade journals & flower pens.  In two weeks we'll be making journal jars to go along with our journals.
We also sang Happy Birthday to both Cadence & Lorien & had yummy cupcakes to celebrate
(see, I got to make homemade cupcakes for SOMETHING.)

We had a blast.  I love my 8 activity days girls.

Cadence's Family Birthday Party

Cadence's big friend birthday party is on Saturday, but we always like to do a small family party here at home on our kids' actual birthdays.  I always make their favorite dinner & then we open presents from family.

Cadence's favorite dinner:
Lasagne & Spinach Strawberry Salad

Heaven, in the form of food.

After dinner, we opened presents together.  Thank you to all the family who sent her such amazing gifts.  We had a blast & she loved everything she received.

Mamoo gave her The Princess Diaries
1 & 2

Open, open, open

Taya has been saving up her allowance money for a few weeks
& bought Cadence a king size Twix bar (Cadence's favorite)
for her birthday.  It was the sweetest thing ever.

Mimi & Baba got her an Orbeez Soothing Spa

Lorien has also been saving her money.  (She saves money
very well & only spends it on other people.  She's great
at that.)  She bought Cadence an origami set for her
birthday because she knows how much Cadence talks about
wanting to learn how to do origami.

Opa & Oma bought Cadence some adorable earrings
& a cute jewel box

Grandma Kinsfather sent Cadence an adorable
card with $10 inside

Auntie Cari, Uncle Justin, Korbyn, & Brinley sent Cadence
a cute tote/purse that she can design herself

Auntie Char & Uncle Jay sent an ADORABLE dress

Nancy always sends at least one fun new outfit
for my kids' birthdays

Nancy also sent this gorgeous jewelry box

and a fun soap making set

and a gemstone book with some REAL gems

Trek & I got her a filter for her fish tank
(We're sick of cleaning that thing so it's a win/win
for everybody!)

Her brothers & sisters got her a guitar stand for her guitar

It was a great little party.  We had fun & Cadence was very happy.
Happy Birthday Angel Girl.

School Birthday Celebration

At what point to kids stop wanting mommy to come into their classrooms to bring cupcakes for their birthdays?  I was SO SCARED this would be the year that she would be old enough to say,
"Sorry mom, I'm too OLD for THAT."
But, my little girl cares too much about me I guess.  The minute I mentioned maybe bringing a treat to school & she smiled & told me
"I'd love for you to come to my class & meet my friends.  Plus we always love goodies!"
She knows it makes me happy to do stuff like that & I love that she's not embarrassed by me yet.

At her school, homemade treats are not allowed for "safety reasons."  Seriously?  Do parents POISON cupcakes these days?  Oh brother!
But I guess it IS kind of easier to just buy cupcakes from the grocery store, but it costs 4 times as much. I was sad not to be able to make cake pops or cupcakes, but I was SO HAPPY I still got to deliver something to make my little girl's day extra special.

Isn't she beautiful?

Thank you Cadence for letting me share in your special day.

Cadence's Birthday Breakfast

Happy Birthday to my sweet little Cadence.  I can't believe she's already
10 years old.
Where has the time gone?

She's been looking forward to her birthday for weeks now.  It's SO bizarre to me because she's NOT a little girl anymore. . . she is into older girl things, doesn't play with toys anymore, & is more like a little friend rather than a baby girl.  It's crazy.

But no matter how old she gets, one thing will always remain the same.
BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST ROCKS.

For her 10th birthday breakfast she wanted heart shaped pancakes, scrambled eggs with bacon & cheese, & bacon. . . oh & a ding dong of course.
(fake ding dong that is. . . I can't believe Hostess went out of business. . . don't they know we rely on ding dongs for Potter birthday breakfasts?  The Little Debbie substitute looks like a ding dong, but is nasty compared to the real deal.)

Cadence was SO happy.

What a cutie pie 10 year old right?
(I didn't see Taya in the back holding up 5 more fingers!  What a stinker.  Cadence is NOT 15,  just 10. Remind me to thank Taya later today.)
