St. Patrick's Day 2025

Happy St. Patrick's Day from the Potter House.  You know how much my kids love doing the Leprechaun Hunt!  I thought at this point they'd be "over" that kind of thing, but they still beg for it every year.  Now I find myself working & planning for weeks in advance so I can make codes, ciphers, & clues hard enough to stump them.  They've gotten too smart for me.

Each piece of the Leprechaun's rainbow is hidden with a bag (with a cipher clue to the next hidden rainbow piece), & some sort of activity.  We do the silliest of activities on St. Patrick's Day.

Canyon hung up the red rainbow piece located on our Lucky Charms Cereal.  Inside the bag were green shirts for each of the kiddos to wear.  Taya had early morning seminary so she left early wearing her green shirt.

The code in this bag was a battleship style code with coordinates & symbols.  It wasn't super hard, but took some time to figure out entirely.
F9, A4, I5, D6, A8, H1, B5    G7, I3, C5, E8

This led them to the writing desk upstairs.  Craiger was very proud to find the orange rainbow piece.

Inside this bag was a "build a leprechaun" craft for them to do.

Also inside this bag was an emoji cipher which led them to the popcorn machine in the basement.

After school they got to open the yellow rainbow piece's bag.  It instructed them to make Shamrock Shakes.  Taya was able to participate in this one before she set off for work at Chick-Fil-A.

Inside this bag was a Book Key Code that led to the fireplace.  I loved this clue.
"Secrets" - 38.20.2

"Chamber of Secrets" - 38th page - 20th line - 2nd word: Fireplace

Inside the fireplace they found another sticker craft for St. Patrick's Day.

This bag also had the "Mary Queen of Scott's Cipher" leading to the piano bench.

Before going for the next clue we ate dinner. . . . which consisted of a rainbow fruit platter, green veggies, green alfredo on spinach ravioli, & mint brownies.

After dinner we were able to play "Don't Eat Pete" (which for some reason is their very favorite game at St. Patrick's Day.)

We also got a new game this year called "Roll a Rainbow."  The kids enjoyed this one too. . . mostly because both games involve skittles which are their favorite.

Inside this bag was the most difficult cipher of all, a weight cipher.  I had attached letters to specific items in the piano area & they had to weigh them on a scale & compare the weights to the numbers in the cipher.  They led them to the bench upstairs & they found the Leprechaun's treasure there.

It was a blast.  St. Patty's is the best.

Craiger's 14th Birthday Party

My teens are getting to the point where they don't want "mom" running their birthday parties anymore, which I totally get, but it makes me a little sad at the same time.  It's just a new phase that I'm learning to enjoy from the sidelines.  I do love seeing my kiddos step up & lead their own get togethers with friends.

Craiger had about 8 friends over & they played a ton of Jackbox games, board games, & video games together.  I ordered pizza for them all with fruits & veggies & I got him some ice cream cakes as well.

We were all "kicked out" of the party so the rest of the family ate pizza like little gremlins IN MY BATHROOM.  ha ha ha.

Craiger has really great friends.  They all had a lot of fun goofing off & just hanging out.  It makes me happy that he's made a place for himself here in UT & that he's adapting & making friends so well.

Happy Birthday Craiger.

Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Craiger Potter

I'm SO SO SO sorry I haven't updated my blog in a while.  My mom passed away & life just got away from me after that, but I'm working on getting things put back together & writing down what's been going on.

Craiger ranked up to a Cadet Chief Master Sergeant in the Civil Air Patrol mid-March.  This is the highest enlisted rank you can get.  After this rank, he has to write an essay on leadership, give a speech to the squadron, then take a HUGE test to swap over to the officer side of CAP.  He always makes us so proud.
