Homecoming fell on a 3 day weekend (& Taya's birthday) this year. Lorien was very excited & bought a beautiful purple dress online. She is the oldest in the group of friends she went with. She was the only one "old enough" to officially date, so since her friends couldn't ask anyone out in particular, they did a whole GROUP activity for homecoming & she wound up having an absolute blast.
There were 27 of them in total, 9 girls & 18 boys. Lorien, being the sweetheart that she is, decided she wanted to learn how to make boutonnières for all the boys. We went to a local florist & bought a bunch of random flowers, then went home & watched youtube videos. Within 2 hours, we had 21 boutonnieres made & they looked really really nice.
At noon, all the girls headed over to our house where a few friends came over to help do hair, makeup, & nails. It was SO fun having the girls & their moms here.
Once all the girls were ready, we piled into cars & drove to the meeting place for pictures.
At first a whole lot of teenage awkwardness set in. The boys didn't know how to act around the girls & vice versa. Lorien has never had a problem talking to people so she got the conversation going & taught the girls house to put boutonnières on the boys. To the girls' surprise, 3 of the boys had made corsages for each of the girls. It was super cute.
My girl was gorgeous. She's such a beautiful young woman. She makes me SO proud as a mom. Lorien will always be my little mini-me. I love her so very much.
Then we finally got the kids together to take some group photos. Some kids came later that night, but we had a huge group.
After pictures we threw all these teenagers into vans & drove them to another mom's house for an amazing fancy dinner. She prepared an incredible feast for them. The boys escorted each of the girls into the house & they had a blast being fancy, toasting with punch, & eating delicious food.
Then they piled into cars again & headed to the actual dance at the High School
After the dance, the parents picked them all up & took them to yet another mom's house for a FUN afterparty. The freshman went to one house & the sophomores went to another. Lorien (who is a Junior) went with the sophomores. They had fondue & played bunco until 11 pm.
It was SO much fun. The kids had a blast & will always remember this experience. I'm so glad Lorien has such a wonderful group of friends.
