Being a "dance mom" is totally new for me. My older 2 girls did ballet when they were 3 or 4 years old, but dance never really stuck in our family. We tried dance, gymnastics, sports, etc. . . but the Potter's tend to lean toward the music, drama, art departments more than the sporty ones.
Last year, Taya took her first dance class, a ballroom class at school, & she fell in love with it. She had SO MUCH FUN learning the steps & perfecting them. I was surprised when she told me she wanted to try out for the high school ballroom team. I was so excited when we learned she made the ladies ballroom team.
They only had 4 rehearsals as a team before their first official competition at Orem High School. And boy, was I unprepared at how much work goes into getting them READY for competition. It took me nearly 3 hours to get her hair in a decent slicked back bun (with an entire bottle of sticky gel), & get that much makeup on her. (I have decided I absolutely HATE fake eyelashes. They take way too long to put on correctly). I'm still amazed we actually got her fully ready on time.
I applaud dance moms out there that do this regularly. It's HARD.
She was SO nervous & SO excited at the same time. First competitions are always scary, especially when you've only been rehearsing the dance 4 days.
They did great. Was it perfect? Of course not. Were there mistakes? Yes. But they did a great job for only having 4 rehearsals. I still can't believe how good Taya is doing without any prior dance experience. We are very proud of her & her improvements each time she dances.
The ladies ballroom team took 3rd place at this competition. We were so proud of them.
