Taya's First Ladies Ballroom Competition

Being a "dance mom" is totally new for me.  My older 2 girls did ballet when they were 3 or 4 years old, but dance never really stuck in our family.  We tried dance, gymnastics, sports, etc. . . but the Potter's tend to lean toward the music, drama, art departments more than the sporty ones.

Last year, Taya took her first dance class, a ballroom class at school, & she fell in love with it.  She had SO MUCH FUN learning the steps & perfecting them.  I was surprised when she told me she wanted to try out for the high school ballroom team.  I was so excited when we learned she made the ladies ballroom team.

They only had 4 rehearsals as a team before their first official competition at Orem High School.  And boy, was I unprepared at how much work goes into getting them READY for competition.  It took me nearly 3 hours to get her hair in a decent slicked back bun (with an entire bottle of sticky gel), & get that much makeup on her.  (I have decided I absolutely HATE fake eyelashes.  They take way too long to put on correctly).  I'm still amazed we actually got her fully ready on time.

I applaud dance moms out there that do this regularly.  It's HARD.

She was SO nervous & SO excited at the same time.  First competitions are always scary, especially when you've only been rehearsing the dance 4 days.

They did great.  Was it perfect?  Of course not.  Were there mistakes?  Yes.  But they did a great job for only having 4 rehearsals.  I still can't believe how good Taya is doing without any prior dance experience.  We are very proud of her & her improvements each time she dances.

The ladies ballroom team took 3rd place at this competition.  We were so proud of them.

Escape & Evade 2024

This year for the ROTC Escape & Evade event, Trek not only got to go be a part of it again, but Cadence got to be there as a brand new cadet at the BYU ROTC program.  Trek was excited to see how she did with her team (of friends we've known from Germany over the years)

It was SO FUN for her to get to be part of this. I'm so glad she decided to do it & not only that, but to ask some of the other BYU cadets to do it with her.  She had 1 friend from the first time we lived in Germany & 1 friend from the 2nd time we lived there.  They made a great little team & they had a blast.

Trek was one of the "seekers" the entire night so he got to use a flashlight & try to find all the cadets trying to hide.  He never found Cadence, but he found a lot of other teams.

The game ended at about 2am, then everyone camped out in tents & had a fun breakfast together the next morning.

What a fun experience for Trek & Cadence.  I love that they got to do it together.  Two peas in a pod.

Craiger Ranking Up to Cadet Tech Sgt.

The 2nd week in September, Craiger ranked up in the Civil Air Patrol once again.

He is now a Cadet Tech Sgt & continues to be an element leader, leading the new cohort cadets into becoming outstanding CAP members.  We are always SO very proud of him.

Festival 2024

One of the new yearly activities our church has introduced this year is a music festival where youth ages 11-18 can go, listen to uplifting music, dance, sing, & just be together.

We had everyone wear NEON & we ended up having a blast with the youth that came.

Brad Wilcox (one of the young men leaders for the entire church) was there & it was great meeting him & talking to him with our kids.  He spoke in General Conference in October & my teens were really excited that "they knew him!"

September 11th, 2024

Every year on September 11th, the University of Utah remembers by walking every staircase in the University of Utah football stadium.  It's amazing how many people turn out for the event.

Trek does this every year with his cadets.  It's an amazing experience for everyone involved.

Piano Guys Concert

For my friend Jessica's birthday, we all went to see The Piano Guys in concert.
I absolutely LOVE the Piano Guys.  We had SO MUCH FUN.
