Istanbul/Mongolia Trip - Sunday, March 10th, 2024 - Breakfast

Sunday morning we woke up to the first Islamic prayer of the day at 5:50am. The Islamic prayers are pretty incredible. There are 5 Islamic prayers each day: at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, & evening. The person assigned to give the prayer goes to the mosques & prays over a loud speaker that is projected all across the city. The prayers are not spoken, but sung & I absolutely love listening to them. Each mosque in the city does this, so each time prayers happen, you hear several different prayers being sung echoing each other. It’s beautiful.

Trek went for a quick 5 mile run around the Hagai Sophia, Blue Mosque, & across the bridges & poorer areas of the city. He came back & then we quickly got ready for the day & left our apartment to go find some breakfast. The store next door to our apartment was actually a restaurant so we decided to give their breakfast a try. It was called the Mesopotamian Breakfast Brunch CafĂ© & it was great. They took us up to the top floor of the building where they had tables & chairs on the roof. It was a little chilly so I was unsure if I wanted to eat up there, but then I saw the view. From the rooftop, you had a perfect view of both the Hagia Sophia & the Blue Mosque. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. Our breakfast was amazing. We ordered the breakfast for two which included: mulberry juice, apple tea, 3 types of omelets, a basket of bread, bagel naan, olives, fried cream cheese rolls, a plate of cheese, fresh honey, tahini & jam, clotted cream, & more. I can’t even name all they brought out. It was the perfect amount for 2 people & it was delicious. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect breakfast.
