Barefoot Park

Okay, so this is another SUPER FUN find near us.  Barefoot Park in Bad Sobernheim is about 1 hour & 15 minutes north of us, but is well worth the trip.  We loved it so much that we bought a family year pass.  This was crazy fun.

When you arrive, you park your car (next to a dog training facility) & walk over to the park.  You pay at the shack & then take off your shoes & socks.  They have spaces to store your shoes for free, or you can pay for lockers for 1 Euro to store purses/shoes/belongings in.  From that point on, you HAVE to be barefoot.  The kids & I had way too much fun with this.

The first obstacle we went through was the mud walk.  It wasn't a long portion of the hike, but it was by far the funnest.  The mud went all the way up to Canyon's thighs (my calves) which was hilarious. The kids were loving it.  It was sticky, slippery, smooth, gross, & fun all at the same time.

Of course Craiger actually fell into it.  I swear that kid has the curse of clutziness.

We loved seeing our muddy feet all together.

The entire 3.5 km is full of different terrains for your feet to explore, rickety bridges, rocks, sand, mud, brick. grass. . . it's a total sensory experience.

The kids especially loved every time we walked through water.  It was nice to wash our feet off.  The water was a little cold, but the kids didn't mind.

We also had a to cross a fairly large river.  The current was decently strong, & it went up to my thighs which was Canyon's waist.  He was a little scared, so I held onto him as we crossed it together.

The kids enjoyed all the obstacles they had to cross along the way.

Our sweet friends decided to join us & there is nothing better than having fun with friends.

As you walk, there is beautiful German countryside in every direction.  Just reflecting on the beauty reminded me of how lucky we are to be living here.

Towards the end of the course is a really fun playground for the kids to play at.  My kids could have spent a good hour there, but we had to get back home.  Teeter Totters are always the favorite toy.

At the very end of the course, you have to once again cross the river, but this time you have 2 choices:
bridge or boat

They have this amazing bridge that you can climb across,

or you can pull yourself across the river on a little boat.  My kids did both several times.  They'd cross on the boat, & then walk back on the bridge. . . then boat, then bridge, then boat, then bridge.  They were having way too much fun.

After a couple hours of fun, we picked up our shoes & purses at the lockers & headed out.

We found a giant bench on our way out.  ha ha ha.

This place is a blast.  You're outside, you're having fun, you're getting exercise.  It's literally the best thing ever.  We will definitely be back again soon.
