Moab Trip 2025 - Day 1 - Gooseneck Point

2 days after my mom's funeral was spring break for my kiddos.  Trek had the week off of work as well, so we decided to hop in the car & explore UTAH.  We ended up doing an impromptu trip to Moab.  I grew up in Utah so I've been to all the National Parks, but Trek & my kiddos haven't.  They boys went to Moab in February with their young men church group, but it's been years since I've been there & this was Taya's first time.  It was going to be a perfect way to get our minds off of everything & take a break spending quality family time together.

We started by driving to Gooseneck State Park so we could see the Colorado River at the Gooseneck Bend.  They had a cute little souvenir shop there & Craiger proved to his sister that iphones do indeed fit into the "donation boxes" there.

Craiger bought a cute little "National Park Lego Set" & some of the kids bought themselves some treats.

There was a cute little lookout area at the shop that was perfect for taking pictures with canyon views behind us.

Canyon was LOVING seeing his name on EVERYTHING there.

The boys also had the chance to smash a penny.  They thought that was pretty cool too.

Everything in Southern Utah is just gorgeous.  No matter which way you turn or where you look, it's all beautiful.  We took lots of pictures on our hike to Gooseneck Bend.

And we took some goofy ones too.  My kids are dorks.

All 6 of my kids are climbers.  They LOVE climbing on things.  They all scared me when they were toddlers, especially Bladen.  That kid could climb to the top of the fridge at age 2.  We used to call him Spiderman.  My kids were in HEAVEN here.  They could climb anything & everything they could see.

I love my dear sweet husband of mine.  I've always known he's had a fear of heights, but he still does scary things like bungy jumping, rock climbing & rappeling, etc.  I have never seen his fear actually stop him in his tracks, but this area really truly terrified him.  He said that when he's bungy jumping or rock climbing, he's strapped in & knows he is safe, but out here, there is nothing stopping you from falling off one of the cliffs & THAT scares him.  It scares him even more seeing us walking close to the edge.  We learned REALLY fast to stay close to the mountain (not the edge) just so he felt safe.  The kids loved wrapping their arms around him when he got scared.  I love how we help each other face fears & build each other up.  I love my family.

We stayed at Gooseneck State Park for most of the day & just hiked for several hours.  We took our time, explored every nook, cranny, & cave we could find.  It was a lot of fun after driving for 4 hours.

When we were finally done hiking, we piled back in the van & drove to our hotel/apartment in Moab for some rest & relaxation.  I brought down my own food to save money so we cooked a spaghetti dinner, played some mario kart on our switch, played a few board games, then went swimming in the 3 awesome pools at our apartment complex.  We also enjoyed the hot tub.  After swimming, we went back to the apartment, watched an episode of Doctor Who, then went to bed.  It was a wonderful day.
