Cadence had a murder mystery party for her 15th birthday, & it was a total blast! So I promised Lorien I'd do one for her 15th birthday as well. She chose an 80's themed murder mystery & I can't tell you enough how incredibly fun it turned out to be. I'm an 80's baby & this party was
TOTALLY RADICAL!!!
A big shoutout to the website mymysteryparty.com. I used them for Cadence's back in time party & I used them again for this one. They really do make murder mystery parties EASY.
We only planned on inviting a certain number of kiddos, but then word got around that we were doing it & we had more kids asking if they could come, then more, then more & we wound up with 35 extra teenagers in my tiny German house. As crazy cramped as it was, we had WAY TOO MUCH FUN with this party.
All 35 teens were given names of 80's pop icons. . . well, knock off names for copyright puposes. Most of the teens had no idea who any of these people were/are, but once they asked their parents (I love the 80's generation! We KNOW how to party!), the parents took the reins & TOTALLY dressed their kids up ridiculously for the party. Man, the 80's fashion was terrible wasn't it?
Lorien was "Lindy Lauper." We got her blue neon spandex leggings, a black dress with neon skirt, a yellow mesh top, fingerless gloves, a huge bow, & ugly necklaces. SO UGLY. When the kids came in, we took pictures of each of them in front of a police line up because
"everyone's a suspect!"
I wish I could share all those hilarious pictures with you, but I have to protec the privacy of our guests. But they were dressed AMAZINGLY & it made it even funner.
Cadence wanted to play along as well so she was "Fadonna!"
We also had David Bowie, Ozzy Osborne, Molly Ringwald, Magnum PI, a Ghostbuster, Scarface, Teenwolf, Jessica Rabbit, Debbie Gibson, Mork, Crocodile Dundee, Karate Kid, & tons more. It was hilarious.
We had a huge group of kiddos. We started out with the first round of clues & let the kids mingle, laugh at each other's ridiculous costumes, & divulge secret information to each other to help them along their way in the mystery. We also served them a massive Mexican food bar with tacos, burritos, nachos, & all the fixins. We had more boys than girls at the party & holy cow, I was NOT prepared for the amount of food teenage boys can eat.
After round 1 & dinner, I was able to get most of the kids to pose for a picture. This isn't even all of them. There were SO MANY KIDS IN OUR HOUSE. And I loved that they were all dressed up & playing their parts. Lo has the best group of friends.
Round 2 divulged even more clues & at the end of round 2, the murder happened. Trek loves building a crime scene around the "dead body." These kids got SO into this that it made it even more fun.
Death by rubik's cube!
After Round 2, we sent the kids to different rooms in the house for an 80's dance off. We split the kids up into 7 groups of 5 kids. Each group had a dance style they had to incorporate into their dance as well as a classic 80's song. This was a BLAST. The kids loved it.
The 7 styles were:
hip hop
ballet
tik tok
breakdancing
irish dance
swing dancing
& disco
The 7 songs Lorien chose were:
Footloose
Thriller
Summer of 69
Walk Like An Egyptian
You Make My Dreams
Never Going To Give You Up
Hey Mickey
After all the giggling, dancing, & karaoke of classic 80's music, we headed back downstairs for cake & ice cream.
Lorien always requests my Reese's peanut butter fudge cake. It's a family favorite.
After dessert we proceeded with round 3 which were the reveals. Everybody guessed who they thought the murderer was, then one by one, each characted gets to stand up & do a monologue of why they were or weren't the murder. It's fun to see the kids get excited thinking they were right to find out they were way off. I think a few of them did get this one right though. It was a really fun murder mystery.
After reveals, we opened presents which is always fun.
Lorien had a blast. She said that this party was the best party ever & that makes me happy. The kids seemed to have a blast & I had an absolute blast putting the whole thing together.
Now I can't wait for Taya's 15th birthday!
Happy Birthday my sweet Lorien.
