Big Family Vacation - Day 8 - Time to Go Home

And it was finally time to say goodbye to Italy.  We woke up early & enjoyed our very last view of Caste Sankt "Angelo & headed to our usual bus stop.

We all made it easy peasy & Canyon "redeemed" our bus tickets one final time.

The bus dropped us off at Rome Termini station.  Usually we'd take a train to our next destination, but this time around we found a bus that took us directly to the airport.  Most of us slept on the bus ride.

We got to Rome Campiano & checked in our bags, got through security very quickly, & then relaxed as we waited for our plane to arrive.  Tuhk found some "Tuc" crackers & we all laughed.  They were pretty good.

Like usual, Ryan Air was late, but we're kind of used to that at this point, so we waited for our plane to arrive, get gassed up & cleaned, & finally started to board so we could go home to Germany.

The flight went well & we got back to the Hahn Airport.  Then we got hit with some more adventurous fun.  We had 2 cars . . . the van which seats 8, & the black car which holds 5.  There were 2 people we didn't have seats for.  We spent a good hour going from taxi to taxi, from rental car place to rental car place, trying to find someone that could take 2 of our family members back to our house with NO LUCK.

Trek FINALLY was able to call someone who lived about 30 minutes from Hahn Airport to drive over to pick up Opa & Oma, & then drive them to our house.  It would only cost TWO HUNDRED EURO!!!  Yikes.  This trip ended up costing way more than we planned on it costing.  BUT, we got them a ride.

Then Trek & I couldn't get our cars out of the parking lot.  The scanner that scans our parking tickets wouldn't work & so we were trapped inside.  We ended up having to call the parking company & had to have them manually open up the barriers so we could drive our cars out.  We were SO exhausted at this point.  But we got it worked out.

We drove the hour it takes to get home & Opa & Oma were already waiting for us when we arrived.  We unlocked the front door & we all just collapsed exhausted from it all.  We spent that evening washing clothes, getting things ready for Carolyn & the kids to fly out the next morning (from Frankfurt), & got things set up for Opa, Oma, & Tuhk to stay with us for another week.

We also called Tony to come bring us ice cream.

It was a lovely end to a wonderful Potter family reunion.
