My goodness, my blog has totally slipped my mind over the last SEVERAL months. I need to catch up. (It's now January 2024 & I'm barely starting September's blog posts!)
September flew by with school, Trek's work, life in general, & trying to get settled in the new area now that we finally had our things again.
We worked really hard on the house in September. We fully unpacked all the boxes & starting hanging things on the walls. We decorated for Halloween too, because, well, why not?
The basement of the house is unfinished. It's kind of cold down there, but there is a lot of good space so we wanted to utilize it for more than just storage. We made one section of it a little theater room for the kids & their friends. We bought some cheap carpet padding & a carpet remnant & fit it to the area, added a black tarp to the studs to make a "wall," & then put up a movie screen & a projector to watch movies. The kids LOVE that little area down there. It's fun. On the opposite side of the black tarp "wall" we put the triple decker bunk bed for guests or sleepovers, then Trek built me a wall length closet to hang all my costumes so that little area is now the "costume closet." We can now find our costumes quick & easy which is SO FUN. We have dress up days for no reason now & my kids are loving it. The rest of the basement has Bladen's drumset & storage. It's a nice sized basement. We're loving it.
Trek & I try to take our kiddos out on dates every now & again. He discovered a wonderful ice cream parlor called Leatherby's in Draper. He took both Lorien & Taya there & now they're obsessed with the caramel sauce there.
The girls continue working hard. Taya LOVES her job at Chick Fil A & they love her. It's a great job for a teenager. They take really good care of their employees.
Lorien ended up quitting subway (because her manager kept insisting on scheduling her during her college classes (which she couldn't miss) so after a lot of back & forth trying to explain why she can't miss her college classes to work, she finally quit & found a new job as a cook at a retirement home in Orem. She LOVES cooking. She gets to make a "special" every day & then serves her usual restaurant menu several nights a week. This job has been wonderful experience for her since she's going to culinary school right now. It's great job experience for the field she is interested in.
(even if there are kitchen mishaps on the job)
Mimi & Baba are loving having their grandchildren all so close. They like to have the kids over for sleepovers. The kids love it because they get spoiled rotten.
The grown ups love it because it's a "game night" for us.
Trek got put into the Young Men's program at church being over the 16-18 year old boys. I got put into the Young Women's program as the secretary so Trek & I are both loving working with the youth again. We have about 40 youth in our ward & we love doing fun things with them each week. . . . like silly kickball.
Craiger was inducted into his school's NJHS here in UT. He is excited to be doing service & learning leadership skills through this wonderful program.
We have also been loving $1 slurpees from 7-11 & $1 ice cream cones from Maceys.
(I just loved this picture of Canyon with a mushroom hat. The costumes are so easy to get to now that the kids are always being weird & dressing up in funny things to make each other laugh.)
And in September, Taya got called to be on the Stake Youth Council (a group of teens who help lead several congregations of teens in activities, events, & more). She is loving helping plan activities, meetings, classes, & dances for all the teens in our area.
