The day after Craiger's birthday (less than 24 hours after arriving home from Mongolia) was St. Patrick's Day. My kids LOVE St. Patrick's Day! Every year I put together a Leprechaun treasure hunt with codes, puzzles, & clues mixed with fun activities to help them find the rainbow pieces & the treasure at the end. I love doing it & the kids have always looked forward to it.
This year, I put the whole thing together about 2 weeks before I left for Mongolia because I knew I wouldn't have enough time to plan this out otherwise.
I use a series of codes & puzzles to give clues to each location of the rainbow pieces. This year for the first clue, I used the game of Life car pieces to spell out a location in braille. They thought that was quite clever.
There is always a bag where the rainbow piece is with an activity inside. This year I found a leprechaun gnome velcrow toss game. The kids had fun with that.
And of course, all our food is GREEN on St. Patrick's Day.
Shamrock Shakes are always the favorite activity of the day. Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream is the best.
I almost didn't do "Don't Eat Pete" this year because I thought they might be growing out of that game, but they FREAKED out when I asked how important it was to them. Apparently we don't mess with tradition. They played for a VERY long time.
At the very end of the day, they find all the pieces which leads them to the leprechaun's treasure which is a bucket of GREEN things. They love it.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
