July just flew by for our family. We were so busy getting Taya ready for her mission & busy getting Canyon's play all done, that we blinked & it was over!
We had a great 4th of July with all the kids together. We had a picnic at Cadence & Amkaa's house, then went to the freedom festival shopping booths in memory of my mom. She LOVED those booths on the 4th of July. I miss her.
Taya & Canyon challenged the Provo, UT missionaries at a scripture chase & won popsicles.
For what felt like 2 weeks straight, we got Taya ready to battle the elements of the Philippines. We drove over an hour each way (THREE TIMES) to get the materials she needed to help her combat the water issues there as well as the bug issues. One of the big projects we did, was hang up all of her mission clothing, bags, luggage, socks, etc & sprayed them down with military grade Permethrin that would make her clothing bug proof for 107 washes (aka her whole mission). It was disgusting stuff. You had to wear gloves & a mask to apply it, then you had to let it dry well. We couldn't park in our garage for over a week while we treated everything.
Craiger was super happy to get his friend to dye a patch of his hair pink. . . she ended up dying most of his ear & neck too which I thought was hilarious.
Bladen begged me to make homemade cinnamon rolls, so instead of making them for him, I asked him to help & he learned how to do it himself. They were SO GOOD.
Taya's best friend April was in Utah for a week, so they got to meet up & spend some time together. April was even able to attend Taya's farewell which was awesome for the 2 of them.
Once Taya got her email telling her who her missionary companion, district, etc. would be. . . she realized her companion lived by my brother in Lehi. They decided to meet up & go to the temple together before even getting set apart as missionaries. She's a darling girl. I knew they would be a great companionship together.
And Taya got set apart & started home MTC for 2 weeks in July. It was great having her home during those 2 weeks as she learned Tagalog & how to use Preach My Gospel. We spent those 2 weeks packing up her bedroom & her mission suitcases in between her 6 hours of daily classes, 2 hour workshops, & personal studies. But we did it together & she was ready to be a full time missionary. We are so proud of her.
My favorite part of July was attending the wedding of one of my old seminary students from Germany. SO MANY PEOPLE came out for it & it was like a mini Germany reunion. It was so much fun.
It was a great month. We were completely worn out by the end of it, but it was a wonderful month.
