After visiting Monkey Mountain, we drove up the steep incline to Koenigsburg Castle. I love that we could see the castle from Monkey Mountain!
The view from the top was absolutely GORGEOUS. There were mountains on all sides of us & the fog rolling in added beautiful layers of colors everywhere. We parked in a parking area, then walked to the very top of the mountain where the castle was.
This was one of the biggest castles we've visited here in Europe. It was a great one. It was fun having The Bourne's with us (so my kids had "friends" to adventure with).
I was completely in love with the old doors & their locks. They were GORGEOUS.
This was a fun castle because part of it was fully decorated inside, & part of it was old castle on the outside with fun courtyards spread out here & there. The tour we did wove in & out of the castle. I loved the change of scenery. . . walking inside for a bit, then a beautiful outdoor courtyard surrounded by old walls, then inside again, then outside again. It made it a really fun tour.
The kids loved that this castle had an actual drawbridge with moat surrounding the castle. It was pretty cool.
The kids enjoyed the gift shop, as always, & all the friends had fun playing together.
After visiting the castle, Kevin found a geocache nearby so we hiked up the mountain a ways to see if we could find it.
We searched & searched & searched, but didn't find it at first.
Then the kids decided to scale the side of the mountain up to the castle walls. . .
& (surprise), they found the geocache treasure!
Hiking back to our cars, we couldn't help but take a ton of pictures of the beauty of this area. It was absolutely breathtaking.
