Border Hike

The week before Easter was Spring Break so we took the opportunity to do a family hike.  We found a few family friends who were also planning a hike & they joined us for a fun day.

We drove down to Southern Germany & did a 7 mile hike straight up to a lookout castle on top of a mountain, & then followed the trail to 3 other castles on the German French border.  It was fun being able to step foot in & out of France & the 4 castles we saw were INCREDIBLE.  They were all ruins, but I've missed visiting castles.  COVID-19 has stopped most travel & tourism for the last year & a half so it was SO refreshing to get some exercise, fresh air, & see castles too.

I loved the cute Easter decorations in the village we parked in.

And the architecture in these villages never cease to amaze me.  I love them.  I could take pictures of every house, building, barn, etc.  They are so beautiful.

It was nice having a few more kids with us on our hike.  Our kids never would have made a 7 mile hike without friends.  We took it slow & enjoyed the animals & scenery around us.

We saw 4 of 20 castles all located in a big loop around the French/German border.  This one was on the top of a mountain & we could see for miles all around.  It was beautiful.

After 4 hours of hiking with a TON of kids, we were exhausted, sunburned, & ready to head home.  Of course, the day wouldn't be exciting without an adventure right?  Our back tire popped on the ride home, so we found an opportunity to teach Cadence how to change a tire.  She did it all by herself like a pro.  We were very proud of her.

It was a really fun day with fun friends & beautiful sunshine.
