Amsterdam & Zaanse Schans

On Sunday, we woke up early & drove an hour to church.  The thing I love the most about our church is that no matter where you are in the world, our church is there.  Just look up where & when they meet & show up.  You'll be learning the same doctrines/stories/teachings that day as everyone else in the church no matter where they are in the world.  We study topics & doctrine together as a worldwide church.  It's amazing.

The entire church meeting was in Dutch, which surprisingly, we all understood fairly well.  It's very similar to German & English.  The kids even wanted to stay for the 2nd hour which was fun as well.

After church we drove to Amsterdam City where we had a bike tour scheduled.  I love riding bikes as a family.

We had the cutest tour guide.  The girls were giggly the entire tour.  They all thought he was adorable.  He taught us the history of Amsterdam, & took us to all the most prominent locations there.

Canyon got to ride tandem with Trek which cracked me up.  Canyon was ALL OVER THE PLACE.  Trek is a master of bike riding, but when you put Canyon up front, you never know what's going to happen.

Amsterdam is a beautiful city . . . FULL OF BIKES.  There are over 1.5 million bikes in the city alone.  They have parking garages for the bikes.  It's insane.

The architecture is beautiful too.  I loved all the unique buildings there.

The kids especially loved all the beautiful canals everywhere in Amsterdam.

I will admit, riding bikes in the city where there are more bikes than cars was a little scary, especially with the kids riding.  I swear we were going to die several times as we crossed busy streets with bikes & taxis & cars going every which way, but we survived & the kids had a lot of fun.

It was a great 3 hour tour of the city.  We saw all the main parts of Amsterdam, enjoyed the fresh air, & just had fun as a family.

The dom in Amsterdam was also beautiful.  You know we can't go into a city & not go into the church.  They're so beautiful.

Funny thing. . . what are the chances you'd run into one of your best friends in the HUGE city of Amsterdam?  We just so happened to run into Taya's best friend's family in the middle of the city while we were crossing a busy road.  We had to take a picture.

Look at the bike parking garage.  It's 3 stories tall & packed with thousands of bikes.  How do you even find your bike in this?

After exploring the city, we hopped back in the van & made our way up to Zaanse Schans (the windmills).
This area is SO beautiful.  The kids were excited to see the famous windmills of The Netherlands.

It was raining & was a little chilly, but it didn't stop us from exploring.

One of these windmills was built in 1667.  It's insane how old some buildings in Europe are.  And they're still in beautiful condition.

It was a beautiful day that we'll never forget.  Netherlands, we love you!
