Decorating for Lorien's Wedding Reception

The night before Lorien & Elijah's wedding, we spent several hours at the church building decorating for the reception.  It took much longer than we anticipated, but we got it done & it looked great.

We had so many issues with hanging the lights, but those issues turned the night into an adventure!
"Would the fishing line hold up?"  Nope.
"Would nylon rope hold up?"  Yes.
"What do we hook these to?"
So many questions & experiments until we got it working.  And it looked beautiful by the time we were done.

Cari & Justin made this beautiful "Welcome to our wedding" sign.

We set up their "bench" in the front lobby where friends & family could sign their bench (which is going into their house) & always remember who came to their wedding.

I also loved the wood displays Elijah's parents made for all the pies.  Both the bench & the displays were made from a tree they cut down in their backyard so it had sentimental significance & it was beautiful.

Cari decorated the backdrop with white drapery & flowers & it was absolutely GORGEOUS.

Everything was beautiful & ready for the bride & groom to be.  We were SO excited for them both.

Paint Your Friend Activity

At the beginning of the month, we did a REALLY fun activity with the youth of our church congregation.  We talked about how we are all Children of God & how he loves us & sees us as a parent sees their child.

We paired the youth up & had them "paint" the person sitting across from them.  Yes, they were funny, some were amazing, but it was meant to just be fun & they really enjoyed it.

After painting, we wrote "A Marvelous Work in Progress" at the bottom of the paintings, then had each of the teens write a positive trait about that person around the painting.  My kids all have their paintings hanging in their room.  They look at them every morning & are reminded that they are Children of God & they see those beautiful words their peers wrote about them:
Kind, organized, leader, friend to all, cute, full of service, dependable, etc.

It was a great activity.

We all decided that it wasn't fair Taya got to paint.  ha ha ha.  She's too good at art.  She got paired up with one of the younger girls & they had fun painting each other.
