Thanksgiving Trip 2023 - San Francisco - Day 2

Thanksgiving morning we woke up at the crack of dawn (hello 5:30am AGAIN!).  We got the kids up & moving & got everyone in their workout/running gear.  We had to leave the house by 6:45am, but everyone made it!  Poor Phoenix woke up with a fever, cough, & was throwing up all night, so Jeff decided it was probably best to stay home with her while the rest of of us did the Turkey Trot.

We drove about an hour (including over the Golden Gate Bridge) to Golden Gate Park.  This Turkey Trot has been a San Francisco tradition for years so the crowd was HUGE.  The only place we could find to park was on the outskirts of the actual park so we wound up walking a mile just to get to the starting line.  We got our competitor bibs & watched Olive run in the Tiny Trot!  She beat the turkey & the buffalo which made her super excited.  She got a little stocking full of chocolate which totally made her day.  Then it was time for the 5K & the 10K.

Trek ran the 10K while the rest of us ran the 5K.  Trek, being the beast that he is, ran the 10K before any of us made it past the finish line for the 5K.  He ran a 7 minute mile pace the whole time & took 49th in the entire race, 12th in his age group which is pretty cool considering there were thousands of people racing.  Bladen & Canyon ran pretty well ahead of Taya, Craiger, & I.  I run about 2.5 miles a day, but am not fast at all.  Craiger probably could have ran faster, but he was nervous to go ahead without me.  Taya, who hasn’t run in ages did awesome & kept up with me the whole time.  Canyon & Bladen beat us by about 5 minutes is all & we were proud overall of how we did considering we aren’t runners.  It was a lot of fun.  Afterward, they handed out a bunch of water, granola bars, nuts, cookies, & all sorts of yummy snacks.  We enjoyed it.

After the Turkey Trot, we drove back to Tylee’s house for Thanksgiving Dinner.  Tylee had it catered by a super sweet girl who did an absolutely amazing job.  The food looked incredible!  Tylee & Trek ran another 5 miles with Nano (Tylee’s dog), while I unwrapped all the food & heated it up in the oven & on the stovetop so it would be ready when they got back from their run.  We ate at about 1pm & it was as delicious as it looked.  I’m not kidding when I say that was by far the BEST Thanksgiving dinner I’ve ever eaten.  The turkey was tender & flavorful, the mashed potatoes were divine & the gravy was the best I’ve ever had.  The stuffing had sausage meatballs & mushrooms in it which made it amazing & the sweet potatoes had marshmallows, caramel, & pecans on top.  The rolls & cornbread were homemade with love & I even liked the Brussel sprouts.  Everything was SO good.

After dinner, we cleaned up & then took everybody to the movie “Wish.”  This movie was the 100th year celebration of Disney movies & it was a darling movie.  The music was fun, the characters were cute, & I absolutely loved all the hidden Disney easter eggs scattered throughout the film.  The kids LOVED it.

After the movie, we went back into the heated pool & hot tub & enjoyed relaxing to Christmas music for the evening as we enjoyed pie & pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.  Phoenix was feeling a lot better, so she hung out with me & made sure to do my “make up” for the evening.  (I think she completely emptied Olive’s play make up kit on my face all at once. . . INCLUDING NAIL POLISH which took FOREVER to get off).  I loved the bonding time with her, even if I was scrubbing my face for 30 minutes in the shower afterward. Ha ha ha.

It was the best Thanksgiving EVER!
