Thanksgiving Trip 2023 - San Francisco - Day 4 (& 5)

Saturday morning we all got to sleep in which was HEAVENLY!  Trek & Tylee went running across the San Rafael Bridge with Nano while I got the kiddos up & ready for the day.  It felt so good to sleep until we woke up instead of waking up to an alarm.

After they got back from their run, we ordered breakfast from a fun place called Bread & Butter, picked it up, & drove to Drew’s High School for his alumni soccer game.  The current soccer team played a game against former members of the high school (basically a bunch of old people) & surprisingly the alumni team killed them!  We made a picnic brunch out of the food we ordered while we watched the game.  Drew played awesome.  He scored 3 goals in the game.  He is super fast on the field & it was awesome getting to actually be there for one of his games.  Lucas came to visit us while we watched as well.  It was great seeing my nephews since they were with their mom for most of the weekend.  My kids LOVE Drew & Lucas because they are their age (18, 15).  It was fun.

After the game we went back to the house & packed everything up to go home.  Then we drove to a mall near Tylee’s house to do a secret Santa exchange.  Holy moly that mall was the scariest, saddest mall I’ve ever seen in my life.  It had a Macy’s & a Kohls, but that was pretty much it.  There was a gymnastic studio inside, a TINY (& very sketchy) roller skating rink, an escape room, & a PUBLIC LIBRARY (IN THE MALL!).  There was a Claires & one pizza place & that was it.  We laughed at how scary it was.  Tylee gave each person a $20 bill to spend & then we picked each other’s names out of a hat.  We got to buy a gift for the person we picked.  It was SO MUCH FUN.  We divided up into teams & shopped together.  I shopped with Canyon.  He was buying for Trek & I was buying for Taya.  We found a lot of fun things in Claire’s for Taya (she loves squish mallows), & then we spent the remainder of the time in Macy’s trying to find something for Trek.  Canyon finally found 2 pairs of Christmas socks & some house slippers for him.  I thought it was super sweet.  He did well.  We met back up & drove back to the house to exchange gifts.  They turned out adorable.  Taya & Trek loved theirs.  Opa got Lorien a really cool flashlight.  Bladen got Craiger a Pokemon stuffed animal & Craiger got Canyon a big Star Wars blanket & bowser car.  Taya got Tylee a beautiful sweatshirt & Trek got Opa a nativity snow globe.  Tylee had Olive (which totally wasn’t fair, we all wanted Olive) & Olive had me & got me the cutest Minnie Mouse stuffed toy.  Tylee got me some make up too.  SO FUN.  I think that might have been the kids favorite part of the trip.

After that, we said our goodbyes then hopped in the van & drove 2 hours to Opa & Oma’s house.  Oma left earlier & took Grandma K back to their house so they were excited when we finally got home.  We grabbed some Taco Bell on the way & had a Taco Bell picnic in their kitchen.  Their new house is SO cute.  Oma has it decorated SO beautifully.  You can tell they are SO proud of it.  It’s absolutely perfect for them.  We stayed up late & watched a Christmas movie (Klaus) together as a family, then went to bed.  Trek & I were in the main bedroom (Opa & Oma refused to sleep in there) & Canyon was on the little sofa next to their bed.  Taya, Bladen, & Craiger slept on camp mattresses in the kitchen & it all worked out just fine.

Lorien stayed in San Francisco with Tylee.  She flew out early Sunday morning so Tylee spoiled her rotten on Saturday night with manicures & pedicures, Thai massages, a nice dinner, & Christmas shopping.  She was in heaven.

Sunday morning we woke up at 5:30, ate a delicious muffin & bacon breakfast made by Oma, packed some sandwiches to eat on our 10 hour drive back to UT, then said our goodbyes.  We loaded up the van & took off.  It was a LONG day of driving, but we made it back safe & sound at 5:30pm.  We were sad our vacation was over, but we loved every minute of it.
