Big Family Adventure - Day 6 - Walking Around Rome

After attending church & visiting the temple, we went back to the hotel for a short 30 minute nap, then we headed back out to visit some of the main tourist sites in Rome by foot.  We didn't have any tours or have to be anywhere in particular, we just wanted to walk around & enjoy our Sunday with family.  Cadence & Lorien opted to stay at the hotel this time around.  Their poor feet had blisters & they just wanted some time to themselves.  Drew left with his mom Sunday morning, so that left 15 of us to wander around Rome.

We walked back to the Pantheon (which we saw on our 3rd day) hoping we could take the family inside to admire it's beauty from within, but once again we were foiled in our plans.  The Pantheon is closed to visitors on Sunday so we were 2 for 2.  But we did enjoy seeing it for a 2nd time on this trip.

As we started walking, we just happened upon Trajan's Column.  Trajan is Trek's all time favorite Roman Emperor (yes, he thinks of historic people like favorite characters from a book or movie.  He's my history lover & I love him for it.). This column is carved out of beautiful marble & has all of Trajan's accomplishments carved in intricate detail all around the column leading to the top.  Trek was SO excited to see it up close & personal.

Just passed Trajan's column, we found ourselves at the beautiful Trevi Fountain.  It was completely packed with people/tourists so it was hard for our big family to get around, but we were able to get a few pictures & enjoy it's beauty.

And just a few minute walk from the Trevi Fountain is the Spanish Steps.  Of course we had to walk to the very top to get the full experience.

The views from the top were beautiful.  It was well worth climbing the stairs.

It was SO nice to not be rushing around.  We were literally dancing in the street & just enjoying ourselves as the sun started to go down.  It was a lovely afternoon.

Heading back toward the hotel we passed Trevi Fountain one more time.

And once again, we stopped at the ONE place we could find that would feed everyone cheaply.  McDonalds.  I think this was the 4th or 5th time we stopped here which is kind of sad, but it was fast, cheap, & Oma was able to eat there because they have a gluten-free menu there which is extremely hard to find in Rome.

We hopped on our favorite bus at this beautiful building again, & made our way back to our hotel apartment.  The girls were happy to see us again & were starving.  Luckily we grabbed them some McDonalds & brought it back with us.

We got everyone showered & in bed (it was another hot & sweaty day so those showers made everything nice & clean at night), & then Trek & I planned out our final day in Rome.  We had a tour at the Vatican Museums at 9am so it would be another early morning wake up call for the family.  Our apartment was near the Vatican gates so it was only a 15 minute walk for us. . . we just needed everyone awake & ready to go by 8:30.  Easy Peasy.

We ended our evening by watching Angels And Demons (which takes place in Rome) with Cadence, Lorien, Taya, & Bladen.  This got the kids SUPER excited about visiting the Vatican our final day.  It was a wonderfully quiet, easy going Sunday.
