Day 8 - Sunday, June 18th, 2023 - Father’s Day - Mykonos, Greece

Day 8 - Sunday, June 18th, 2023 - Father’s Day - Mykonos, Greece

We got up & met at 7 for breakfast at the breakfast buffet again since Mykonos was another tindering port.  Trek had gotten up earlier to get our number for tindering, but opted for a later boat since we weren’t in any rush at Mykonos.  We were #19 so we enjoyed our breakfast without being rushed for time.  We gave Trek his Father’s Day cards & spent the morning doting on him for Father’s Day.  He truly is the VERY BEST DAD anyone could ever ask for.

We made our way down to deck 4 when our number was called & got in line, walked to deck 1, then got on bigger tinder boats than the ones in Santorini.  The tinder ride was less than 15 minutes & it took it directly to the market/tourist area of Mykonos which was great.  Mykonos is a much bigger island than Santorini, but everything you want to see is on the one side of the island which made it easy for us.  There are wonderful beaches around the entire island, but we opted to just stay close to main market area because we just wanted an easy day for our last day on the cruise.

We walked around the town there & explored more of the beautiful white buildings with vibrant colored roofs (blue, red, orange).  We looked around at the marketplace (which was the most expensive marketplace we’d visited on our cruise), then hiked to the famous Mykonos windmills.

We walked about half a mile to a beautiful beach overlooking the sea where our ship was waiting.  This beach was also owned by a restaurant & charged 30 Euro to use the umbrella, 2 beach chairs, & the private beach area.  Lorien & Taya used the chairs, & the rest of us had fun playing in the water.  The water was a gorgeous blue & green, was shallow enough to have a ton of fun, & the waves were perfect.  My kids just love beaches.  The beach here was small rocks instead of sand, similar to the black beach which was SO interesting to me.  We played for about an hour until we got a severe storm warning on our phones telling us that unsafe weather conditions were coming in one hour.  So our time on Mykonos was short, but still fun & memorable.

We packed up & made our way back to the market village.  We explored a little more, & took a few more pictures (while Trek flew his drone around the island), then tindered back to the cruise ship.

The kids were THRILLED.  They never wanted to leave the ship.  It cracks me up.  The ship was their “home” for the week & they knew this was our last day enjoying it.  They immediately went to deck 9 for more ice cream, then we went to our rooms for small catnaps while the “storm” happened.  While they were still sleeping, Trek & I went to the pool deck & just sat & chatted in the sunshine for a couple hours.  It was wonderful (I may have had 2 more ice creams during that time).

Once 5:30 rolled around, we all met back together in the dining room for one last fabulous dinner.  I had the most amazing tapas for my appetizer (hummus, pita, tzatziki, veggies), then a full on Turkey dinner with gravy, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing, & corn, then peach trifle for dessert.  Boy was I going to miss these amazing meals.

After dinner we went up to the pool deck as a family & played some card games (citadels & 6 Nimmt).  There was a whole group of boys who were totally IN LOVE with Taya.  They had been following her around the ship & found her while we were playing games.  They were all SUPER young (like 11-13. . . Where she’s almost 16), but they were flirting & trying to get her number the entire time we played games.  They even joined us for one round which was hilarious.  We told them it was time to go & they were sad she had to leave.  Then we got one last fabulous ice cream & made our way to the top deck to watch the sun set one last time.  The wind was insane & at one point my dress flew completely over my head while I was still eating my ice cream.  Once I got my dress under control, I was completely covered (hair, face, arms, & dress) in chocolate.  We all laughed at that.  Then we finally made our way back to our rooms for final showers, packing up all our things, then went to bed.

What a wonderful week it was & we will never ever forget it.  Royal Caribbean was the very best & we are SO SO SO grateful to them & all they did to make this cruise an absolute blast for the Potter Family.
