We had a super fun "adventure day" as a group of friends in April. We wanted to rent a rail car on the Altenglan railway & pedal it 23 km to the end of the track. It was pouring rain & was freezing cold, but we decided to go do it anyway & we had a blast.
Each rail car had 7 seats. . . 3 bikes with pedals at the front, & 4 seats in the back. There were exactly 14 of us so we split up evenly & decided to take turns pedaling. These little rail cars were pretty cool.
It was a blast. We did take a lot of turns so nobody got too tired pedaling. We also took turns jumping out of the car to lift the railroad crossing bars so we could pedal through. Then we'd run & jump back on our moving rail car. It was so interesting. Half the time we were crossing through actual villages with cars so we'd have to stop at stop signs (on a railroad) while cars drove over the tracks. We had to be aware of traffic at all times. But it was so much fun. We were loud singing, laughing, & telling stories. We were like a bunch of silly teenage girls. I swear we really are teens at heart. . .just will a little more wisdom & wrinkles is all.
We stopped several times along the way. The scenery was just so beautiful that we HAD to take pictures of everything.
We even did some things we probably shouldn't have. . . like put Allie on the tracks & see if we could drive over the top of her. We did. She was fine. And we're a bunch of weirdos for trying it.
We joked the whole time that it was a race. Our car was always winning (because it was first on the tracks & literally couldn't be passed). But there was one point where we got really far ahead of the other car so some of the ladies were funny & laid down on the tracks pretending to take naps & read books while we waited for the others to catch up.
(Again, we're just a bunch of kids trapped in old people bodies).
We had so much fun. It took about 2 hours to pedal about 23 km to the ending point. I want to go back & do this with my family. It seriously was a ton of fun.
We stopped at a cute little cafe for hot chocolate & fries before we hopped on the bus to go back to Altenglan. It was a fun little rest stop.
And then we took the 40 minute bus ride back to where we started (where we parked our cars).
It was a TRUE ADVENTURE.
I will never forget it.
