Virtual Girls Camp

Because of COVID 19, all church activities have been cancelled for the summer.  The girls were SO bummed about missing girls camp, especially since this would be Cadence's last.  She was looking forward to being a youth camp leader & was crushed when we learned it was cancelled.

Through friends, I found out that our wonderful church group from when we lived in CA, decided to do a virtual version of girls camp this year.  Since it was "virtual," I thought that maybe my girls could attend virtually & see all their old friends.  I contacted the leader in charge & she was wonderful.  All 3 girls got to attend & not only that, but they made Cadence a YCL (youth camp leader).  For 2 weeks Cadence prepared devotionals, cute little videos to go along with the theme, games, & more for her group of 8 third year campers.  Lorien got to meet with her old friends from CA as a 4th year & Taya was a 2nd year this year.

The theme was "The Lion King" & was centered around the youth theme "Go & Do."  Each day they woke up in CA (it was 7pm here) & attended girls camp.  Here's what their basic day looked like:

9am - Video introducing the days theme
9:15 - 10:00 - Morning Devotional with YCL's (scripture study, devotional, get to know you games)
10:00 - 10:40 - Class #1
10:50 - 11:30 - Class #2
11:40 - 12:00 - Closing Devotional

Camp went over 3 days & the classes consisted of different crafts like Lion King Paintings that said "Remember who you are," bracelet making, making masks as a service project, exercise/physical fitness classes, EFC (especially for camp devotionals), baking cinnamon rolls, & more.  It was a wonderful experience for my girls, even if it meant staying up to 11 every night.  My girls enjoyed seeing their friends from CA, felt uplifted & part of something special, & learned a lot.

The sweetest part was that the camp director mailed "camp bags" to each of my girls.  In CA, they delivered the bags to each of the girls participating, but it was extra sweet that they mailed bags to my girls.  Inside the bags were treats, letters from leaders including the bishop of our old ward, a scripture scavenger hunt, & all the supplies the girls needed for their masks & crafts.  It was adorable.

I'm so grateful they had the opportunity to join camp with their old friends.  It made the COVID summer a little more bearable.  Thank you to our friends in CA.  You made camp extra special for our girls this year.
