Next we visited the Church of the Multiplication where Jesus fed 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread & 2 fish found in Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:31-44, Luke 9:12-17, & John 6:1-14. The Roman Catholic church is located at Tabgha on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee. The current church rests on the site of 2 earlier churches. The first Byzantine church was built in the 4th century & the 2nd in the 5th century.
At the center of the church is an altar. Under the altar is a block of limestone found during excavation, that is believed to be the stone on which the miraculous meal was laid. The original 5th century mosiacs depict 2 fishes & a basket of bread.
This church was beautiful.
