Sankt Wendel & Rothenburg Christmas Markets 2022

In December we had only 1 weekend to go & explore Christmas Markets.

Friday night we drove to Sankt Wendel for their Christmas Market.  I love Sankt Wendel.  They have several small markets throughout downtown.  We visited them all.

We started at their medieval market where all the booths were actual tents like in medieval times.  Everyone was dressed up in medieval costumes & all the goods sold at this market were old school things like hand weaved baskets, hand dipped candles, & forged ironworks done by a blacksmith.  It was really really neat.

We found some käsespaetzle which is all of our favorite thing to eat at Christmas markets so we got a few plates to share.  It was amazing.

After visiting the medieval side, we ventured over to the main Christmas market for shopping.

We also found the gnome village where we explored all the cute little gnome houses on display.

The next day we got up early & drove to Rothenburg ab der Tauber (my favorite German city) to visit their Christmas market.  I love Rothenburg so much.

Walking down the streets of this medieval city never gets old.  Most of these buildings were built in the 12th & 13th century.  They are incredible to see.

Trek was VERY excited to find marzipan potatoes.  They are his favorite Christmastime sweet.

The whole city was beautifully decorated for Christmas.  I loved it so much.

We even found Saint Nikalous as we were walking through the Christmas market.  He gave our kids chocolate & oranges.

The Christmas market was quite small for such a famous city, but it was gorgeous.  I'm so glad we chose to finally visit this one before we leave Germany.

We found a really cute German restaurant downtown that was really really great.  It was wet & snowing & the kids were cold, so we were glad we found a place inside.  The food was amazing.  I had kasespaetzle & a really yummy meatloaf dish.  It was delicious.

The snowflakes were really coming down too.  It was the first snow of the season.  The kids were SO excited.

At every Christmas market we visit we always look for Christ.  Sometimes it's really hard to find any sort of depiction of our Savior.  We found a beautiful nativity hidden in a back alleyway off the beaten path.  I'm SO grateful we found it.

When it was finally time to go home, the kids were thrilled with the amount of snow falling.  They hoped it was snowing back home too.  IT WAS.  We got a little dusting of snow & it totally made our week.

I'm going to miss Christmas Markets.  They have been such a fun experience during our time in Germany.  We are truly going to miss them.
