Israel - Day 8 - The Trip Home

Our final day in Jerusalem, Trek woke up early before our flight so he could run one more time in the city.  This time he ran the entire perimeter of Old City Jerusalem (6 miles).  It was such a memorable run for him.  He got to see each of the gates, the City of David, & the Garden of Gethsemane again.  He was SO happy he woke up early so that he could do that.

Our bus driver picked us up at 8 & drove us to the airport in Tel Aviv.  Our driver dropped us off at the wrong terminal so we had to find the shuttle to get us over to the right terminal which was a 15 minute bus ride.  We were relieved when we made it.

We got there 3 hours early & once again found ourselves there well before the Ryan Air desk was even open.  We got in line with all our friends & waited to check in.  Check in was pretty fast, but security was awful.  There were only 2 lanes open for everyone there & to make it worse, someone had thrown up all over one of the security areas.  There was puke all over the floor so you couldn't even get through security without stepping in it.  It looked like it had been there several hours which made it even more disgusting, but we got through as quickly as we could.

When we got through passport control, we still had about an hour & a half before our plane boarded.  The kids were thrilled to see a McDonalds right next to our gate.  We were also relieved after paying $150 every day for lunches.  We promised the kids we'd buy them some McDonalds before we boarded the plane, so about 30 minutes before our boarding time we went to order some lunch.  Trek & I about DIED at the cost.  I thought for sure McDonalds would be affordable, but I was wrong.  The Value chicken sandwich (about 3 Euro in Germany) was $20, a medium fry was $12, & it was $25 for 24 chicken nuggets!  Our poor kids. . . we ordered 24 chicken nuggets & one fry & then split it between the 7 of us.  We couldn't wait to get back to affordable food.

Our flight was about an hour delayed (typical Ryan Air), but we made it back to Frankfurt Hahn with no issues.  We landed, all went to the bathroom (while Trek held all our luggage, backpacks, & coats), gathered our things & drove home.  We got home around 9pm, just in time to go to bed & get ready for Christmas Eve!

I'm so grateful for the opportunity we had to take this trip.  It was once in a lifetime & we feel so blessed we were able to make it work.  It was incredible.
